GIFCT aims to equip digital platforms and civil society groups with awareness, knowledge, and technical tools to develop sustainable programs to disrupt terrorist and violent extremist activity online. The threat<\/strong> of terrorism and violent extremism continues to evolve dynamically<\/strong>, similarly, the technology landscape is evolving rapidly<\/strong> as new technology emerges and existing technologies are repurposed and reused in novel ways. The technical solutions we develop must do more than be sustaining, they must evolve to keep pace with the changing landscape<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

GIFCT continues to develop cross-platform technical solutions<\/strong> that strengthen how our members can combat attempts to exploit their platforms and improve the health of the broader online ecosystem. Online, terrorist, and violent extremist activity online involves attempts to exploit multiple platforms and types of online services. GIFCT\u2019s technical solutions are designed to be cross-platform to address this reality. These technical solutions offer our members the ability to strengthen their individual efforts while further tackling how bad actors often migrate across platforms. With this guiding objective, GIFCT\u2019s technology team develops technical products that provide a route to multiply the impact of our collective efforts.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Hash-Sharing Database (HSDB)<\/a> is currently GIFCT\u2019s leading cross-platform technical solution that allows members to identify if and where terrorists or violent extremists are attempting to exploit their respective platforms. GIFCT enhances\u00a0 and evolves the HSDB to ensure that it is useful, reliable, and effective in\u00a0 keeping pace with the threat. The HSDB is a shared, safe and secure industry database of hashes of known content produced by terrorist entities. Hashes are numerical representations, or digital fingerprints, of content, such as images, videos or PDFs, and cannot be reverse-engineered to recreate the content itself.\u00a0 In practice, the HSDB provides a signal to identify where terrorist and violent extremist\u00a0 activity may be taking place on member\u2019s platforms that violates their policies and terms of service.<\/p>\n
